There is a baggage claim area on the Arrivals level of each terminal at Cairo Airport. At CAI, the baggage carousels are located on the ground floor. Follow the screens displaying your flight number. You can find out which conveyor your flight has been directed to on the screens.
Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3 have their own baggage claim areas. In other words, each terminal has a separate baggage claim area. Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are connected to each other.
Terminal 1
The baggage carousels are located in the Arrivals area of Terminal 1. This area is on the ground floor. Terminal 1 is used for both domestic and some international flights.
Terminal 2
Terminal 2 also has separate baggage claim areas. This area is on the ground floor of the terminal. T2 and T3 are quite close to each other. The Arrivals areas of these two terminals are within walking distance of each other.
Terminal 3
Terminal 3 has a baggage claim area in its Arrivals area. Many international airlines use this terminal. Terminal 3 is the busiest terminal. It is particularly busy in the morning and evening. Which terminal you arrive at depends on your flight. T2 or T3 are used for international flights. T1 is used for short connections and domestic flights. So you collect your baggage from the terminal where your flight arrived.
How do you collect your baggage?
Get off the plane. Go through immigration and passport control. International passengers must go through passport control. After completing these procedures, go to the baggage claim area. You can see your flight number on the screens here. Baggage carousels are designated by flight number. The screens are updated frequently.
Go to the conveyor and hold your tag. Don’t forget to check the baggage tag number given to you during check-in. I once picked up the wrong suitcase. You may confuse your suitcase with another one. Therefore, the safest method is to compare the suitcase with your baggage tag number.
Don’t forget to check your luggage after picking it up. If your luggage is damaged or broken, you should report it to your airline.
After picking up your luggage, go to the customs area. Here, you must declare anything you need to declare to customs. Then you can exit the terminal. There are luggage carts in the Arrivals area.
What Should You Do About Lost or Damaged Luggage?
I’m sure most travelers have experienced damaged luggage. Once, my suitcase had a huge hole in it. I was very upset when I picked up my suitcase. This unfortunate scenario could happen to you too. If you experience such an incident at Cairo Airport, go immediately to your airline’s help desk in the baggage claim area. There, you will be asked to fill out a form. You must fill out a PIR, or Property Irregularity Report. This is a standard form filled out for lost and damaged items. The airline staff will assist you. After filling out the form, a reference number will be created for you. This number is necessary for tracking the location of your suitcase and for any potential compensation claims.
Write your ticket number, baggage tag number, flight number, identifying baggage information, accommodation address, and contact information on the PIR form. Don’t forget to take a photo of your damaged baggage. Airlines will send found baggage to the address specified on the form. For damaged baggage, the airline is required to pay you compensation.
